Grey Hair: How Did Grey Become the Hot New Hair Colour?

By: Jessica A Parker

Grey hair on women used to carry a certain stigma, but these days young starlets are rushing out to replicate the silvery sheen traditionally associated with their more well-travelled counterparts.

This article gives a lowdown on the new trend for grey. Read on to find out why it has become so popular, which celebs are embracing this fresh new look, and how you can achieve it yourself.

Why is grey suddenly so popular?

Grey hair is sometimes considered to be undesirable, and many people choose to cover up or dye theirs. However, if treated properly, naturally or dyed grey hair can be an extremely stylish and elegant look. In fact, grey has hit the headlines recently with stylish celebs stepping out while sporting newly silver locks, this bold new effect just screaming 'look at me!'

Inspired by those fashion leaders, the trend is now catching on with young fashionistas everywhere, who are keen to challenge the norm, make a stand against the traditional 'silver stigma', and experiment with this radical choice.

Who's doing it?

Kate moss, Kelly Osbourne, Kelis, Pixie Geldof and Ellie Goulding are just some of the big names who have recently joined the grey brigade, and each of them has interpreted the style in their own individual way. All of these stars, though, cleverly match their silky silver hair with perfectly cared for, youthful-looking skin and vibrant make-up to ensure the look is more edgy than ageing.

How to achieve the look:

The first step to achieving silvery locks is to bleach the hair from root to tip to a very light blonde. From here, it will be possible to add the grey colour with a toner, the key being making sure you keep it in for the right length of time. This look is tricky to achieve solo and you might want to head to a salon so a stylist can work their magic on you instead.

Remember, bleaching is hard on your hair and you need to adapt your hair care routine to counteract the drying effect it can have. Opt for a deep moisturising shampoo and conditioner from top hair care brands like Kerastase or Tigi, to keep the hair looking smooth and silky.

Hair care tips for naturally silver hair:

Naturally grey hair can be a highly chic and bold look, but for the best results, grey hair needs to be looked after with the correct hair care products, normally including moisturising shampoos and conditioners. There are professional 'anti-aging' hair care shampoos available which will add moisture to the hair and control the cuticle. Grey hair may also need conditioner colour enhancers as it tends to absorb pollutants from the air, and can otherwise look as though it has become stained by tobacco.

Professional hair care products can make all the difference to grey, bringing out the shine and volume needed to create a really strong impression, and keeping the colour vibrant and clean. Ask your stylist to recommend the right types of hair care products for you, and be prepared to spend a little more if you want to achieve the best results. Make sure you treat your silver locks properly and they should stay shimmering and shiny every day!

Hair Care Advice: The Seven Deadly Hair Care Sins

Hair Care Advice: The Seven Deadly Hair Care Sins

By: Jessica A Parker

We all know that hair can go wrong. Horribly wrong.

And we have all come across a photograph of ourselves with what can only be described as a style atrocity ensconced on our usually fashionable head.

While most of us know when our hair has gone wrong, sometimes it not so clear why. Sometimes, we call these abominations 'bad hair days' - as though the bad hair were inevitable or an act of God.

But we can tell you the truth - that virtually all badly behaving hair can be traced back to inappropriate hair care or styling, somewhere along the line. For the purposes of this article, we will be calling these mistreatments the 'seven deadly hair care sins'. Ignore the seven deadly sins at your peril.

Sin 1: Slavishly following trends

Just because it is 'in', does not mean it will suit you. The best hairstyle for you will depend on your age, face shape, hair type and other factors - it will not change with the fashions. A better option is, once you have found the right haircut for you, to keep it fresh and contemporary by varying the texture, the highlights or making small changes in the styling.

Sin 2: Choosing an impossibly high maintenance cut

The cut might have looked amazing in the magazine or even when you were sitting in the stylist's chair, but if it takes three hours to prepare then it isn't practical for every-day wear (unless you are a fairytale princess). Make sure your stylist knows you want to be able to maintain your hairstyle easily or you could be in for a lengthy and complex hair care routine.

Sin 3: Not knowing what you want

If you do your research before reaching the hairdresser, you are far more likely to be happy with your hair in a few days' or a few weeks' time. Many people expect their stylist to pick the perfect cut for them, but nobody knows what you want more than you do. As long as you can give a basic idea to the stylist of what you are after (pictures from hair care magazines can help), then they can make sure the final cut is flattering and maintainable for you.

Sin 4: Being a celeb hair stalker

Celebrities have their own stylists, sometimes on hand 24 hours a day, as well as thousands of pounds to spend on the very best cosmetics, hair care products and tools. While celebrities might lead the way in hair fashions, it's quite likely that the precise look worn by Cheryl or Posh will be tricky to maintain and you might be better off with a more toned down or maintainable version.

Sin 5: Using the wrong tools

There is a huge array of hair styling tools available on the market today, from top-of-the-range blow dryers to the ubiquitous but highly usable ghd straighteners, but using the wrong tools for your hair can lead to a hair care disaster.  Ask your stylist to recommend the kind of hair care tools you should be using and to demonstrate the techniques needed for them to work well.

Sin 6: Abusing your hair styling products

Overdoing it with sprays, gels and mousses can cause product build-up and lead to badly behaving hair. This is particularly the case if you use cheaper products which contain more processed and unnatural ingredients.

Sin 7: Buying mediocre hair care products

One of the best pieces of advice a hair stylist will give you is to buy professional hair care products. While salon hair products may seem expensive, you will need to use less of them because they contain better and more concentrated ingredients, so each bottle should last a very long time.

Professional hair products are better for your hair in the long run as they do not leave a nasty residue which will build up over time, as cheaper hair care products might. Salon hair products will also improve the condition of your hair over time with naturally conditioning ingredients.

The main difference of organic treatments to home remedies is that organic treatments are developed by medical professionals. Treatments like organic hair products used natural substances to cure and treat conditions like hair problems. Because it uses natural substances it has no side effects, which is the main downside of conventional chemical based medicine. Many medical experts are researching more into the development of more organic solutions to help people in their problems.

About the Author
It all began for Gene Martignetti when his fifth-grade teacher signed his yearbook, "To the boy who introduced men's hair spray to the fifth-grade class. May you try and be more positive, ha ha."

Literally born into the professional beauty industry, his mother, father, two sisters and brother are all hairdressers. Spending his grade school and high school years learning the salon industry, he graduates high school recognized as an Outstanding Teenager Of America. Wanting nothing to do with the salon business, he goes on to play football and study at Elon College in North Carolina and then at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. He soon opens Gene's T & W Ice Cream, the first franchised ice cream shop to offer frozen yogurt inNew Jersey. Gene was into frozen yogurt before anyone knew what it was. After the passing of his father, he steps into the professional beauty industry to run the family distribution business.

In 1977 he accepts a position with Allen Arthur, Inc., a Minneapolis based hair goods firm that his family had done business with. While with Allen Arthur, Inc. he is responsible for signing Terry Bradshaw to a 4-year endorsement contract for men's hairpieces. Again, Gene is ahead of the trend by developing men's hair loss treatments before anyone had heard of hair replacement. It was with Allen Arthur that Gene begins his climb to become one of the beauty industry's top executives. He quickly moves from District Manager to General Manager. After 15 years with Allen Arthur, Inc., Gene's youngest son, Corey, is diagnosed with Leukemia. At the time he has no choice but to resign from his position to spend more time with his son and family.

The story then turns storybook. After six years of treatment, his son is declared cancer free. Gene is hired by KMS, a competitive manufacturer in the beauty industry. As the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Gene puts the small California based company on the "beauty industry map" in three short years during which company sales balloon and KMS eventually sells to KAO Corporation for over $100 million.

Gene's reputation for team building, people skills and marketing savvy soon catches the attention of Robert Taylor, founder of Graham Webb International and marketing genius behind the blockbuster brands Softsoap and Calvin Klein's Obsession and Eternity fragrances. Taylor brings Gene on board to run Graham Webb International. As President and COO, Gene puts Graham Webb International in competition with some of the biggest names in the industry, far surpassing all growth expectations. He develops and introduces the Back To Basics line.  Graham Webb International is eventually purchased by Wella (now P&G Salon Professional) for over $130 million.

Now at the top of his game, Gene and his family are struck with tragedy and hardship once more. His son re-lapses and must receive a bone marrow transplant from his older brother, Gino, in order to save his life, his 21-year marriage collapses and ends in divorce, and Graham Webb International announces a move to California all within the period of one month. Unable to move due to his son's health situation, he takes a position as President and COO of Minneapolis based beauty manufacturer, Beautopia, Inc. There he quickly develops and introduces a handful of successful concepts before moving onto to the development of his own brand before Gene makes the decision to embark on his own path.

Inspired by his past family medical history and fueled by his research of the endless list of dangerous chemicals found in traditional beauty products he launches a health conscious company, Simply Organic, Inc. in 2001 with the help of top medical and industry professionals from all over the world. Ahead of his time once again, he is the first to offer professional salons and spas and their guests a choice when it comes to the health of their hair and skin. Simply Organic provides luxurious services through it's exclusive collection of natural and health conscious products. Gene's mission is to share with clientele new ways to incorporate healthier choices into their everyday lives. He consistently strives to research and develop the safest, highest quality products available while introducing unparalleled wellness information to the professional salon community.

Gene has been a featured guest on Good Morning America, Regis & Kathy Lee and The Today Show, speaking on various subjects. From beauty to motivation, he is one of our industries most sought after and respected teachers. Gene's greatest pleasure comes from spending time with his three children as well as his long standing ties with cancer research and children's causes including: Cancer Kids, The Children's Cancer Research Fund, The LeukemiaResearch Foundation, and his own Stand With Me Foundation which is a charity helping kids both sick and healthy across the country.

7 Steps to Great Makeup

1. Avoid wearing too much

Makeup is meant to enhancefeatures not bring negative attention to you. That's what wearing too much makeup will do; it will bring you unwanted attention. Don't wear too much of anything such as:

i) Eyeliner: dark, thick eyelinerwill make you look overdone and will ruin the rest of your makeup.

ii) Mascara: too much mascara looks fake and will flake. It looks especially bad if worn with thick eyeliner or dark blue eye eye shadow.

iii) Foundation: Make sure your foundation is the same color as your skin. Foundation is meant to protect and give the face a smooth look. The magic word is blend.

iv) Powder:The same holds true for powder - not too much. Also, be sure to blend your makeup so there are no obvious lineS

2. Lips

Apply lip liner to completely cover the lips, add color and your lipstick will stay on much longer. Make sure your lip liner doesn't show. Also, your lip colorshould match your skin tone; wear cool colors if you have cool coloring and warm colors if you have warm coloring. If you want to make your lips look smaller, keep your liner on the inside of your lips. However, if you decide to make your lips look larger, going outside the natural outline of you lips is a mistake. This can look quite messy and unnatural.

3. Appropriate makeup

Wear makeup that is appropriate for the occasion. If you are going to the beach you shouldn't wear the same or as much makeup as you would if you were going dancing. Also, when you are in daylight your makeup should be a lighter than when you are out for the evening.

4. Too little or no makeup
Some women don't wear makeup because they are not sure how to use it and are afraid of being overdone. If you are unsure, start will light colours in your shade. Start slowly and add one product at a time. Maybe start with foundation, add mascara, blush or lipstick. If you are not used to wearing makeup, using a lot a first may be a little too much for you, so start slowly. The bottom line is a little is better than none. If you are still unsure seek professional advice.

5. Overall look

When your makeup is completed it should look natural. That means avoiding colours that clash. If you have dark skin and hair you will look better in darker shades; light colours will make you look washed out. If your hair and skin tone are light, light colours will look better on you. Dark makeup will make you lookolder and harsh. If you have oily skin, first use oil control moisturizer and foundation. Then be sure to wear loose powder, keeping pressed powder with you for touch ups.

6. Hair color

Your hair color should also be in harmony with your skin. If you have dark hair and you want to add color, keep it close to the same shade. If you have light hair, use light colors. As you age your skin will lighten, so should your hair color. One last thing about hair color - if you do color you hair be sure you keep it up, don't let your roots show.

7. One last thing

Keep makeup looking fresh all day by doing regular touch ups. Don't let your makeup fade or crease. Smile!!!

3113_150x250_10.jpgALTA CARE Laboratories is offering a sun protection in powder form. Dermastir Sun powder is a new product that complements the Dermastir airless sun protections which are already available as a white sun protection cream and as a tinted sun protection cream. The Dermastir sun powder has reveal advantages over a normal sun cream. The Dermastir Sun Powder besides achieving amazing results, is presented in an innovative and practical container.

The DERMASTIR SUN POWDER container is made up of the following components:
•    A container with DERMASTIR SUN POWDER SPF 50+ within;
•    A rotating dial that encloses the powder;  this dial has perforations  through which powder is released when dial is turned clockwise;
•    A revolving lid;
•    A sponge is attached to the bottom of the lid; sponge revolves with lid; it absorbs powder released from revolving dial below it.

The Dermastir sun powder is a tinted sun protection powder with sun protection filters that protect the skin from UVA and UVB. The collagen particles added to the Dermastir sun powder fill and protect wrinkles from the sun's rays. Active Vitamin C has also been added to prevent pigmentation. The Dermastir sun powder has a mattifying effect on the skin and this compliments the sweating that happens to the skin when exposed to the sun. The sun powder can be also used over make up unlike other sun protection creams.

APPLICATION OF DERMASTIR SUN POWDER
•    Grab the Dermastir container in one hand.
•    With other hand turn lid a couple of times until ticking sound is heard. Ticking indicates that dial below is turning and powder is being released on to sponge below.
•    Open up lid with powdered sponge.
•    Apply the powdered sponge to face.
•    Replace lid after application

DERMASTIR SUN POWDER is easier to use that other sunpoweder on the market.
•    There is now no need to dig into powder as is the case of other powders.
•    Fingers and hand needn't touch powder.
•    Powder is released on to the sponge just by turning the lid, and consequently the dial below, a couple of times.
•    Sufficient amount of powder is released and there is no wastage.
•    Lid and sponge are not two separate components, but one.
•    The desired amount of powder is released by the turning of the dial.
•    Powder not being used is kept safely in container, away from contamination.
•    Powder is protected from harmful rays of the sun for it is not continually exposed to the UV rays of the sun.
•    Container is light weight and therefore can be easily carried in a pocket or beach-bag.
